| 6 | Low-Cost Farming Practices – A Practical Guide for Sustainable Agriculture | A Practical Guide for Sustainable Agriculture | 2026-06-02 | Yavatmal district is widely known for the agrarian distress that has led to a high incidence of farmer suicides. Rising cultivation costs, unpredictable climatic conditions, and fluctuating market prices have placed immense pressure on farming communities. In response to these challenges, Deendayal Seva Pratishthan has been working to promote sustainable and economically viable farming practices that help farmers reduce risks and improve their livelihoods. Over the years, the organization has developed and promoted a Low-Cost Farming Model that enables farmers to reduce their cultivation expenses while maintaining productivity. Farmers adopting these practices have reported a 25–30% reduction in agricultural input costs, making farming more resilient and profitable. To share this knowledge with a wider farming community, Deendayal Seva Pratishthan published the "Low-Cost Farming Practices – A Practical Guide" in 2025. The publication serves as a comprehensive resource for farmers, covering sustainable cultivation methods, crop management practices, preventive measures, and the preparation and application of low-cost, locally available bio-inputs for pest and disease management. The guide aims to empower farmers with practical, field-tested solutions that reduce dependence on expensive external inputs, promote environmentally responsible agriculture, and contribute to long-term farm sustainability. Through this publication, the organization seeks to inspire a shift towards self-reliant, cost-effective, and resilient farming systems. |
