Natural Farming

We are implementing the Low cost regenerative natural farming Project since year 2014-15 as a long term remedy for the problem of farmers suicide in Yavatmal district. Objectives of the project are to reduce the cultivation cost for the crops, to improve soil fertility, the farm ecosystem and to produce non toxic farm produce. As per the alternate cultivation practices advocated in the project, the chemical fertilizers, chemical pesticides and weedicides required to be purchased from market, are completely replaced by the organic manures and herbal extracts with cow urine. Farmers themselves prepare the inputs like composts, Jeevamrut, organic manure, Dashaparni Ark, herbal extracts, etc. These are prepared from materials available with farmers like cow dung, cow urine, bio-wastes, neem seeds, jaggery, pulses powder, etc. Farmers also use tobacco extract, chilly powder, garlic, Hing, etc. in small quantities. These inputs not only reduce the cultivation costs but also restore ecological balance, soil microbial activity and improve soil texture, leading to sturdy crop growth and better crop productivity. Till date we have reached out to about 17,000 farmers mostly in Yavatmal district.

Trained and experienced field workers reachout to the farmers in villages in identified clusters. They guide the farmers through group meetings, individual visits and providing samples of inputs to test.

During year 2025-26 we reached out to more than 7000 farmers from 200 villages across the Yavatmal and Washim District. Out of these, 4085 farmers from 193 villages adopted the recommended practices and have benifitted in terms of better production and higher income. The field workers undertook regular visits to the villages, farmers and their fields and provided on spot guidance for preparation of inputs and their applications. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has financially supported this project for current year.
