Hostel for the children from Tribal Paradhi Community and students from families affected from farmers suicide

Vivekanand Chhatravas is the first project undertaken by DDSP. Paradhi community dependent mostly on hunting, theft, begging, etc. for livelihood was most socially backward and economically weaker community in Yavatmal district.  It was thought that the community can be uplifted through modern formal education.  It was decided that arrangement for school education for children can be a good beginning.  

Vivekanand Chhatravas was established at Yavatmal in the year 1997 where Paradhi children were provided hostel facilities with lodging, boarding and better learning atmosphere. DDSP members were encouraged to adopt these children for educational purpose and to bear annual expenses for schooling and hostel facility for one child each. At present a hostel with necessary amenities for 60 boy students is available in Yavatmal town. A team of social workers, teachers guide the students and take care of their upbringing. 

Till now more than 600 children have availed this hostel facility and educated themselves.  The educated and transformed child has become a change agent by exhibiting the changes in the thoughts and behavior when it goes back to the Beda (Paradhi hamlet). Many of the children have got established in mainstream livelihood activities.
